Richard Archer Norris (“Byrd”) was born on August 2, 1955, in Greenville, SC and died on March 18, 2019 while under Open Arms Hospice care at his home. He was predeceased by his parents, Mary Jane (“Jerry”) and William M. Norris. He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Rhonda Tennyson Norris and a son, Seth McMurchie (fiancée, Angie Mansfield) of Charlotte, two brothers William M. Norris, Jr. (Marilou) of Greer, SC, Robert J. Norris (Sue Zann) of Greenville, SC and a sister, Mary Jane Duncan (Jim) of Mt. Pleasant, SC.
A host of nieces and nephews will miss him, as well. Christie Williams, Robert Norris, Caroline Smart, David and John Duncan, Leigh Ann Smith, and Greg and Brian Arrington.
He was a 1974 graduate of Christ Church Episcopal School and also spent two years at Darlington School in Rome, GA. He attended the College of Charleston and was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Greenville. He recently retired from his business, Active Alarm Systems, which he established in 1993.
A service will be held on Friday, March 22, 2019, at 2PM at the Mackey Mortuary on Century Drive in Greenville. Visitation for friends will begin one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park on Wade Hampton Blvd.
We’ll never forget his booming laugh, kind heart, quick wit, and love of life. Byrd loved deeply, lived well, had a wonderful life and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
