Richard was born March 29, 1961 in Far Rockaway, NY to Carole Kramer Kahn and Gerald Kahn. He lived on Long Island most of his life (Freeport, Merrick, Long Beach, Merrick) then moved to Mauldin, SC in 2014.
Richard was happiest riding his Harley motorcycle, fishing, listening to music and hanging out, sunning himself, playing pool, taking long walks and car rides with his wife Amy, cooking, loving on his dogs and nurturing his garden and trees. Richard graduated from JFK High School in Bellmore, NY and from SUNY New Paltz with a degree in Political Science. He worked in the family business at Wood-Ply lumber in Freeport, NY, the Hardwood Warehouse, Feldman Wood Products then finally with his son Aaron and wife Amy in the family business they built together, Mauldin’s, A Family Kitchen.
He was a member of the Reform Temple Beth Am in Merrick, NY then Congregation B’nai Israel in Freeport, NY where he served as a Board Member, Membership Chair, Fundraising Chair, Bingo volunteer, cooked Christmas and Easter dinners for the Ronald McDonald House on Long Island, and worked to beautiful the synagogue.
Richard was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Edna and Henry Kramer; paternal grandparents Jeanne and Morris Kahn and fur babies, Cobalt, Shellie and Onyx. He is survived by his wife of 32 years Amy Penwell Moon Kahn and only son Aaron Michael Kahn of Mauldin, SC; older brother Dr. Larry Kahn, sister in-law Deborah Kahn, niece Deanna Kahn; younger sister Lisa Kahn Schwartz, brother in-law Matthew Schwartz, niece & birthday buddy Jenna Schwartz; brother in-law Glenn Penwell, sister in-law Tiffany Thomas Penwell, nephew Nicholas Penwell; sister in-law Ginger Penwell Huge, brother in-law Don Huge; and his fur babies Sammy and Harley and grand dog Abby.

Religious services was held on Thursday, February 3rd in Boynton Beach, FL. A Graveside tribute by family and friends will be Wednesday, February 9 at 11:00 am at Beth Israel Cemetery, 4814 White Horse Rd, Greenville, SC immediately followed by a reception at Planter’s Row Clubhouse, 10 Marsh Creek Dr, Mauldin, SC.
