Raymond, 79, was laid to rest next to his wife Betty in a private burial at Woodlawn Cemetery on April 18. After proudly serving in the United States Army for 30 years, Raymond received full military honors. As a bagpipe played “Amazing Grace,” a 21-gun salute rang out across the grounds, followed by a flag ceremony and presentation, and moving service by Pastor Stephanie Lowden. Completed with a beautiful, solitary rendition of “Taps,” family members gathered to remember the extraordinary life of Raymond Poore.
Born in Greenville, S.C., Raymond attended Greenville High School, graduating to attend Clemson University to study engineering. He complemented his illustrious military career with work for JP Stevens, Greenville Hospital System and Wunda Weave, in addition to owning and operating Long’s Custom Upholstery. Known for his incredibly quick sense of humor, Raymond was also a lifelong fan of the Clemson Tigers, cheering for the team until his final year.
Raymond and his late wife Betty were members of Trinity Lutheran Church in Greenville, S.C. He is survived by his cousins Zeneca Terry Harrison Ford and Gladys Gail Harrison Rouen.
