Rachel Henderson Christy peacefully stepped into eternity Saturday, September 28, 2024 at 6:30pm from NHC - HealthCare. The love of her three sons and their wives released her into the presence of Jesus, reuniting her with many family members awaiting her arrival. What a joyous reunion! If only we could have seen the love and laughter, she was immediately embraced with upon entering the new home prepared for her. Rachel was born in Greenville County on January 15, 1929, the youngest of 10 siblings (all predeceased), to Archie and Cora Julian Henderson (predeceased). She was predeceased by her high school sweetheart and devoted husband of 74 years, Clyde Vance Christy and her eldest son, Thomas “Tommy” Clyde Christy (Cathy), a predeceased great-granddaughter, Alexandria, and great-great granddaughter, Tynslee. Rachel was 95 years old.
Soon after the passing of her husband and eldest son, Rachel declined developing Dementia. The terrible disease may have robbed her of her words and memory, it never diminished her smile. She was known as “Miss Smiley” by the staff at NHC - HealthCare. More importantly, while together on earth, Rachel and Clyde Christy created and lived a daily ministry of love for each other, their family, their church and Jesus, leaving behind a beautiful legacy in their earthly children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren to carry forward for generations to come. Left behind to carry forward the “Christy Legacy” are three sons, Terry (Juliana), Tim (Kathi), and Mark (Janet). There are nine grandchildren, Brad (Rebecca), Adam (Carrie), Ami, Josh, Zach (Lindsey), Morgan, David (Andrea), Mandy (Jonathan), and Megan (Kris), twenty-three great-grandchildren, and nine great-great grandchildren. Known and loved as MaMa by her “grands,” Rachel attended many of their school and sports events, hosted “spend the night parties,” and occasional after school pickups. She also taught them how to make Coke Floats, Snow Cream, and always had the best Merry Christmas cookies during the holidays. She was also known as a really good foot massager.
Rachel was a 1946 graduate of Parker High School. She was an active member, leader, and choir member at Saint Mark United Methodist Church. She was a beautiful lady, loved by so many, and will be forever missed by her family.
A visitation for Rachel will be held Friday, October 4, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 1:45 PM at Mackey Funerals and Cremations at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 1 Pine Knoll Drive, Greenville, SC 29609 followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM. A committal service at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
