Peggy Braddy Thrailkill, 86, peacefully died at her son’s home in Mount Ulla, NC on Sunday, August 29, 2021. Born August 31, 1934 in Dillon County, SC, Peggy was the daughter of the late Robert Adolphus Braddy and Malvina Hopper Braddy. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Dr. Benjamin Edward Thrailkill, Jr., her brother, William Robert Braddy, and her great-granddaughter Austyn Elisabeth Adair. Peggy was a longtime member of Woodruff Road Presbyterian Church (PCA) in Greenville, SC.
Peggy spent her life caring for her husband and two sons. She had a heart for Christ and His Church. In her early years, she played the piano and organ at churches in Hemingway and Surfside Beach. She served on the “kitchen crew” at Woodruff Road Presbyterian Church for many years. Peggy was always the first person to greet new visitors at church and cheerfully attended each visitor’s class, acting as the unofficial welcoming committee. She was also known for making personalized baby blankets for almost every newborn in the church.
Additionally, Peggy supported her husband not only in his dental practice, but also when he became a South Carolina Legislator in 1982. She assisted with his campaign work and her hospitality was an invaluable asset to his legislative career after he was elected.
In her spare time, she loved playing tennis, playing bridge, watching the Atlanta Braves, and supporting the Clemson Tigers. Most of all, Peggy loved her family and the time she spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are her sons, Benjamin Edward Thrailkill, III of Cleveland, GA, and William R. Thrailkill and his wife, Angela, of Mt. Ulla, NC. She also leaves behind her grandchildren Katie Adair (Bobby), Katie Braswell (Damon), Josh Clack, Ben Thrailkill (Michelle), Will Thrailkill, Daniel Thrailkill (Carley), and Anna Grace Thrailkill, and eight great-grandchildren.
The family offers special thanks to Leanne Stanley of Mount Ulla for her care during Mrs. Peggy’s final months.
A viewing will be held at Woodruff Road Presbyterian Church on Thursday, September 2, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. A graveside service will take place at Graceland East Cemetery in Greenville at 12:30 p.m., with the funeral service at Woodruff Road Presbyterian at 2:30 p.m. A visitation with the family will immediately follow the funeral.
