Michael Edward McCurdy

He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Brenda “Bren”; daughter Karen Sharp of Greenville, SC and husband, David Sharp and their sons Samuel and Andrew; daughter Kristin Dunlop of Smyrna, GA and husband Chuck Dunlop and their children Ella, Isabel and Wesley; brother Jim McCurdy of Plano, TX and wife Kelly; brother Bill McCurdy of Wendell, NC and wife Judy; brother Steve McCurdy of Virginia Beach, VA and wife Karen; brother-in-law Thomas Stooksbury of Knoxville, TN; other family members and many friends.

Mike graduated from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, in 1965. After graduation Mike served in the US Army from 1966-1968. He served in Vietnam as a Lieutenant and Medium Truck Platoon Leader. After his military service and several moves, Mike and Bren settled in Brevard, NC where Mike had a career with DuPont Corporation until his retirement in 1992.

In retirement, he and Bren loved traveling around the world and the country and visiting family and friends, seeing many national parks and enjoying life. In 2011, Mike and Bren moved to Greer, SC to be closer to family and enjoyed spending time with their daughters’ families and five grandchildren. During their time in Greer, Mike and Bren found community at Brushy Creek Baptist Church in Taylors, SC.

In February 2022, he and Bren moved to The Woodlands at Furman, where Mike was immediately active in the community and he and Bren established many new friendships during this time.

There will be two services for Mike on August 11.

A memorial service at Brushy Creek Baptist Church in Taylors, SC is scheduled at 11:00 am on Thursday, August 11.

A funeral service at Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory in Pisgah Forest, NC is scheduled at 3:00 pm on Thursday, August 11, 2022.

The family would like to thank the Kindred Hospice of Greenville and Spartanburg for the compassionate care Mike received. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Brushy Creek Baptist Church.
