Lena was the daughter of Bessie Holliday and Frank Vance, Sr.; wife of Gene Wyatt Horton; mother of Patsy Hope Fuller, Carolyn Ann Hill and Jeanne Kaye Horton; grandmother of Ferney Brombie Peterson IV (Vicki), Justin Vance Hill (Kasey); great grandmother of Ferney Brombie V and Kalyn Peterson as well as Austin, Evan, Logan, and Ellesandra Hill.
Lena was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years Gene Wyatt Horton; her daughters and sons-in-law Patsy Hope and Billy Fuller, Carolyn Ann and Spurgeon Cletus Hill; her sisters Hazel Legate and Ouida Coker; her brother Frank Vance, Jr., and her niece Janice Durham.
She is survived by her daughter Jeanne Horton; sister-in-law Gwen Vance; nieces Eleanor McGahee, Karen Stepp; nephews Bruce Legate, Alan Vance (Lori); grandsons and great grandchildren.
She was a graduate of Anderson College and Jacksonville University and was an elementary school teacher for over forty years in Jacksonville, FL and Anderson, SC. She was a long-term teacher at Fork Shoals School.
She was a very involved member of Oak Hill United Methodist Church where she was a lay speaker, annual conference delegate, Sunday school teacher, choir member, and President of UMW for many years. Additionally she was also active in many clubs and held numerous offices. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Business and Professional Women of South Carolina Club.
A funeral service will be held Friday, January 6, 2023 at 2:00 pm, with visitation beginning at 1:00 pm at Oak Hill United Methodist Church, 430 Oak Hill Rd, Belton, SC 29627. A committal service will follow in the church cemetery.
She was a loving and caring person who will be greatly missed by her daughter, family and friends.
