James “Jim” Dellapenna, a devoted husband, father, and accomplished electrical engineer, passed away peacefully on December 5, 2024 in Greenville, SC at the age of 59. He leaves behind his loving wife, Misty Geiyer and three sons, Vincent Dellapenna, Brian Schumann, Bryce Schumann, and his only grandson, Valen Van Schumann, who will forever cherish his memory.
Jim was born in Cook County, Illinois in 1965 to Judith and James Joseph Dellapenna. He grew up surrounded by a loving family and was a caring brother to his three siblings, Diana Johngrass, Vicki Marchaza, and his predeceased brother, Anthony “Tony” Dellapenna. He also leaves behind several beloved nieces and nephews.
Jim received his Bachelors in Electrical Engineering from the University of Akron. He started his career at BP Amoco/Cytec Carbon Fiber in Piedmont, SC and went on to work for them for 26 years. Throughout his distinguished career as an electrical engineer, Jim earned several awards for his dedication and contributions to the field. At BP Amoco/Cytec, Jim obtained his Six Sigma Black Belt certification in which he received The Circle of Excellence Award for expanding the carbon fiber process. He spent the latter part of his professional life at International Paper in Savannah, GA, where he built a strong reputation for his expertise.
Jim was known for his great sense of humor, intelligence, and adventurous spirit. He always had a knack for finding the fun in any situation. He loved playing pool, watching the Pittsburgh Steelers and was an avid stock trader. His talents went beyond his professional achievements— he enjoyed tackling house renovations and was always ready for a new project in which he put his practical skills and keen eye for detail to use.
He will be remembered not just for his professional accomplishments, but for his wit, generosity and liveliness that he brought into every room. His legacy lives on in his family, friends and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
In accordance with Jim’s wishes, there will be no formal funeral or memorial service. The family asks that you remember him in your own way, whether through a quiet moment of reflection, a kind gesture, or a personal remembrance.
