Francis ‘Frank’ William Hager passed away Sunday, June 5, 2022 in Pelzer, SC. Frank Hager was born September 26, 1947 in Troy, NY and was preceded in death by his parents Francis Joseph Hager and Elizabeth McMahon Hager Lea. He was united in marriage to Sarah Tice Greer Hager on February 24, 1980. They were married for 42 loving years.
Frank is survived by his sister Nancy Hager (Raymond) Hill. Nieces: Nicole Rae Hill (Michael) Painter and Tara Rae Hill. Great-niece: Lauren Rae Painter. Great-nephews: Ryan Allen Painter and Nathan Allen Painter.
Frank graduated from The State University of New York at Oswego in 1970 with a degree in Industrial Arts Education. Upon graduating, Frank taught high school Industrial Arts for 3 years. He worked for the State of New York in the Transportation Department and then went on to racing dirt track modifieds full time in the northeast and Canada.
In 1977, Frank accepted a position at Michelin America’s Research Corporation in Greenville, SC and was employed there until 2005, when he retired. At Michelin, Frank worked as a test driver, (handling and sensitivity technician), concentrating on Ford Motor prototype vehicles; then transferred into marketing and sales; and the last 10 years of his employment he was the BF Goodrich racing supervisor and coordinator in the ASA Racing series.
Frank’s love of auto racing was unsurpassed by his love of antique and classic cars, and his love of antique race cars. His vast knowledge of automobiles, automobile mechanics, engineering and automotive racing led him to a life filled with interesting automobiles, people and most importantly beloved friends.
Frank retired from the Army National Guard as rank of Major after 21 years of service.
A memorial service will be held at Mackey Funerals & Cremations, 311 Century Drive, Greenville, SC 29607 in the chapel, Saturday, June 11, 2022 at 10:00am, followed by a private interment at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Amedisys Hospice, Greenville, SC.
