Loved our time at Southside back in the late 70s being blessed by the Garlock family. Singing in the Choir with such a great music ministry, having great music for my churches and family in the years that followed. We will always remember the gift and heart of Flora Jean at the piano.

This was shock to me - I came to Google to look up Frank Garlock, and this was the first entry.  Mrs. Garlock was my Hymn Playing teacher for four or five years while I was a student at BJU in the later 1960's.  All of the hymn arrangements, I learned by rote.  She seemed to have infinite patience with me.  To you, her family, all I can say is "Thank you for the memories."  Do they have pianos in heaven? or have I heard her for the last time.

Flora was an excellent pianist, 
and said she was not a speaker.  Years ago I attended my first ladies retreat in Sarnia, Canada. It was Flora's first retreat as the speaker.   When she made the, "I'm not a speaker" comment, I thought she was surely being modest -- indeed she was!  She did a wonderful job! I felt so privileged to be present, hearing the excellent pianist be an excellent ladies' speaker. I still have her notes. I will always cherish that time of "firsts" for her and for me. 


Mrs. Garlock was a true piano artist, with such elegance and charm in her playing. Her hymn stylings were exquisite. She was my mentor for several years and I learned so much from her; lessons that I will forever treasure and that I now pass on to my own piano students on a daily basis. I'll never forget her wisdom, her kindness and patience with me and her words of advise... "don't think only about the melody ... think about the lyrics....".  Thank you Mrs. Garlock, your music is eternal and will live on forever in the hearts of many. 


I just ordered a trombone solo book online, then realized it was published by Majestic Music.  "Oh, that has to be from the Hamiltons and Garlocks!" So, I went to the Majestic home page and am so saddened to see the obituary of my great piano instructor.  My summers with the Garlocks were the most valuable times in my music education, and the treasured days with Mrs. Garlock's piano instruction have, in turn, been a blessing to others as I share what she taught.  May God bless all of you greatly with His comfort.  You are very special in my heart.

This has always been one of my first memories when you two come to mind.  I thought it was one of the most precious things I had ever heard...and I still do.  Flora Jean had delivered this very special package and you, Bro. Frank, were beside yourself.  I am sure this one will be an extremely appreciated comfort as you adjust to life without her Mom, and wait for God's call for you to join her.  I loved you both intensely.  My prayers are with you and your family.

I was so blessed to be part of the Garlock’s music ministry in the 80’s.  I always hung on every note as she played the preludes, offertories and postludes.  I especially loved when she and Shelly would play together.  What a great Christian lady she was.  My prayers are with you all during this time.   Your loss is heaven’s gain.   

I was blessed to grow up hearing Mrs. Garlock play the piano at the "old Southside" on Augusta Road.  She was a sweet friend to my dear mother, and she was a blessing and encouragement to my family during those years.
She was a godly lady and wonderful example of a loving wife.  She truly epitomized the Proverbs 31 woman.  Whenever our paths would cross, I also noticed what a classy lady she was.  She was a lovely lady, inside and outside!  
I was sad to hear of her passing; she will be greatly missed by many.  My prayers are with her family.

Oct 3 2019 just happened to pull up Majesty web and there was the announcement of Mrs. Garlock's passing She was so kind to me I studied hymn playing with her 1977-1980 and was graced by her giving a reception dinner in her home after my senior piano recital at BJU in May 1980. My other teacher Mrs. Ramsey attended.  Before my attending BJU, Mrs. Garlock came to Kokomo Indiana with her Husband Dr. Frank Garlock to minister to us in music at Indian Heights Grace Brethren Church. In our class session one time she played for us her arrangement of How  great Thou Art ----truly memorable! Her inspiration has followed me for all these years encouraging me to use whatever talent given to glorify Him.  I was so happy to sit once again under her instruction at a Majesty music conference at South Bend,  IN in 2012.  In our Blessed hope in the Savior we will all see each other again in the very near future. Sympathy to the family but with joy in such a loving wife and mother you have experienced ! Mrs. Garlock was my piano teacher for five years. She probably never knew the impact she had had on my life. I have taught piano now for forty years, teaching hymn playing using the methods she taught me.  I still thrill to hear recordings of her playing. She's likely playing the best she ever has, on the best pianos she ever dreamed possible, in heaven.
