Born in Ware Shoals, to the late Stanley Stepp and Marian Williams Beeks, Eloise was always one to help others.
From the time she was 4 years old, Eloise knew she wanted to be a nurse. “I love my work and, most importantly I love helping people.” For over 40 rewarding years she was a RN for the Greenville Hospital System. She served fifteen years as an instructor in the GGH School of Nursing, several years as head nurse on various GGH units as well as Staff Development instructor at GMH. Eloise was a member of Overbrook Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school and was heavily involved with distributing food at the Crisis Center and various other community services. She was also a member of the Woman’s Missionary Union.
Surviving is her son, Michael D. Smith (Marianna) of Greenville; a grandson, Michael Zachary Smith (Shannon) of Easley; one great-grandchild; and two step great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Norman Beeks; and a granddaughter, Jennifer Leigh Smith.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Sunday, June 21, 2015 at Overbrook Baptist Church, with the Reverend Dale Sutton officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 P.M. Saturday, June 20 at The Mackey Mortuary.
Because it meant so much to her and for what it has been able to do for someone the past twelve years, Mrs. Smith would like, in lieu of flowers, for memorials to be made to the scholarship fund created in memory of her granddaughter: The Jennifer Leigh Smith Swimming Scholarship Fund, 424 E. Kennedy Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302.
