Dorothy Chandler Pry, 81, of Greenville, SC, entered into eternal rest Monday, December 10, 2018. Born August 13, 1937 in Clarendon County, SC, she was the eldest of four daughters of the late James Gleaton and Minerva Barfield Chandler of Olanta, SC.
Dorothy graduated from Olanta High School in 1955 and Presbyterian College in 1959 where she received a BS in Business Administration. She served as Assistant Registrar at the college before her marriage to Thomas L. Pry of Searcy, AR in PC’s Wyatt Chapel. She resided for six years in Atlanta, GA where both children were born, five years in Miami, and twelve years in Naples, FL, before moving to Greenville in 1983. She retired in 2014 at age 76 after serving more than 30 years as a public finance paralegal for Mc Nair Law Firm and Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd.
In addition to her position at PC, Dorothy’s varied career included positions with a brokerage, real estate and insurance company in Clinton, SC; with the radiological safety lab at Georgia Tech and later with a firm of industrial psychologists in Atlanta; with the materials evaluation lab at Cordis Corporation in Miami; and running the office of a business counselor until his retirement and then working as compositor at a printing company in Naples, FL before moving to Greenville. In Greenville, she moved her church membership letter from Olanta Presbyterian Church to Aldersgate United Methodist Church.
Dorothy is survived by two children: a daughter, Carla Suzanne Pry, and a son, Michael Thomas (Lynn) Pry, both of Greenville; two grandsons: Chandler Alexander (Mahaleigh) Pry of Raleigh, NC, and Matthew Easterling Pry of Greenville; three sisters: Roberta (Carlie) Morris of Florence, SC, Catherine (David) Knight or Marion, NC, and Patsy Tomlinson of Sumter, SC; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy was predeceased by her brother-in-law, Kleim Tomlinson; maternal grandparents, George and Alice Barfield; paternal grandparents, Wilbur and Mamie Chandler; and ex-husband, Tom Pry.
Dorothy was an early riser who enjoyed reading, solving the morning newspaper puzzles “so she could get her day started,” and creating scrapbook pages both manually and electronically. Her creative mind was rarely at rest as she always had several projects going at the same time.
