Born in Greenville, he was the son of the late Robert Earl and Lettie James. He was a member of Park Place Church of God as well as a member of the Sam Poe Masonic Lodge #284, retired from Greenville News and City of Greenville. He was a Hejaz Shriners, as well as a Vietnam veteran.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years; as well as his children: David Ballew, Jr. (Lynne) of Greer, Brandy Knight (Jason) of Pelzer; and four grandchildren: Kristia, Justin, Candace Lowe and David; two great grandchildren: Annaleigh Hofmeister and Maddex Parks; siblings: Will, Sandy, Deb and Doug; and a special family friend Julia Anderson.
He was predeceased by a brother Steve Ballew and his parents.
Visitation will be from 3:00 to 5:00 pm on Thursday, October 25, 2018 at Mackey at Century Drive followed by a service at 5:00 pm. A private service will be held at Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery at a later day.
The family is at their respective homes.
In lieu of flowers donation may be made to Cancer society or Shriner’s Children Hospital .
