Born in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Robert Marshall, Sr. and Helen Jane Fisher Hamer. Carol was a teacher for almost 40 years and loved teaching children! She loved being around people and was known for her storytelling. Being an English teacher, she was a master of grammar and vocabulary and enjoyed the written word. She often wrote poems for friends and family on special occasions and enjoyed word games. She was an adventurer, traveling to many places and creating scrapbooks of her memories. Family was also very important to her—she was a loving mother and grandmother. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Taylors.
Surviving are her seven children, Cindy Hayes of Greenville, Rebecca Hayes of Greenville, David Hayes (Lori) of Greer, Tim Hayes (Christina) of Mesa, Arizona, Sharon Hayes of Greenville, Melody Hayes of Greenville, and Maribeth Hayes of Greenville; one brother, Robert Hamer (Joyce) of Greenville, and eight grandchildren, Annie Hayes, David John Hayes II, Halley Hayes, Tanner Hayes, Ashley Hayes, Carissa Hayes, Brayden Hayes, and Derek Hayes.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Richard Hamer.
The family will receive friends on Friday, August 27, from 2:00 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. at Faith Baptist Church, 500 W. Lee Road, Taylors, SC 29687. A funeral service will follow at 3:00 p.m. in the church sanctuary officiated by Pastor John Monroe. Burial will be held at Greenwood Cemetery at a later date in Indiana, Pennsylvania.
