Betty Jean Glass Perdue of Greenville, SC died peacefully at home on July 14, 2024. She was 91. She was a faithful woman who loved God, The Georgia Bulldogs, sweet tea, real estate, traveling, golf, bridge, family, and she believed Winder, GA to be the center of all the universe.
Betty was born at home in Bethlehem, GA on November 15, 1932, and graduated from Barrow High School in Winder. Betty met the love of her life, Richard “Dick” Perdue, while dancing at the American Legion Hut in Athens, GA. They married on January 29, 1954, at Bethlehem Methodist Church, eventually making Greenville, SC their home. In 1957, while traveling through Lewisville, GA, their daughter Deborah was born in a doctor’s office in the middle of the night. After many years of work and traveling the world, Betty was known to say London, England was her favorite place to visit. Dick and Betty retired to Taylors, SC, where they owned a roadside retail market, Perdeaux Orchard, for over 25 years.
Betty was a trailblazer for women in real estate. She worked at C. Dan Joyner Prudential for over 30 years, retiring at 78 years old. She was one of the first women to ever make the “Million Dollar Club” in her 40s in the 1970s. Her stories and successes are legendary.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Dick Perdue; her parents Haynie Leon and Mary Ruth Glass; brother Bobby Gerald Glass; brothers-in-law Roger Perdue and Fred Perdue; first cousin Gloria Gilbert; and her devoted best friend Faye Kuehne, the Ethel to Betty’s Lucy.
She is survived by her only daughter, Deborah Ann Perdue of Greenville; two grandsons Paul Cook (Jenn), and Richard Cook (Kaitlyn); great-grandchildren Peyton, Jacob, Gabby, Bailey and James Cook; sister-in-law Carol Glass; nieces Teri Wilson (Andy), Tina Murphy (Geoffrey), Rebecca Slock (Curtis); nephews Reverend Fr. John Perdue, Stephen Perdue (Sally) and Scott Perdue (Debra); aunt Sara Nell Glass King; cousins David Black and Dennis Gilbert; special friend and second daughter Bobbie Jo Seaborn; and many loving cousins, great nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 1 – 2:15 PM on Saturday, July 20th at Mackey Funerals and Cremations at Woodlawn Memorial Park at 1 Pine Knoll Drive in Greenville. The funeral will be held immediately after at 2:30 p.m.
Burial will be held on Sunday, July 21 st at 2 PM at Barrow Memorial Gardens in Winder, GA. Family and Friends are invited to gather at Golden Corral in Winder, GA. After the graveside.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please donate to the Alzheimer’s Association or Lee Road United Methodist Church in Taylors, SC.
