Dick started his career driving a milk truck as a young man. He was a lifelong farmer and during that time served as a Richland Township Trustee, had McMiller’s Lawn Service and was a successful seed dealer with Agri-Pro. He had many faithful years serving at his church, Stelvideo Christian Church, where he was a lifelong member. He volunteered with the Lion's Club and Hospice. Dick’s roots ran deep in Darke County and he enjoyed caring for his neighbors and community. Many will remember him for his delicious baked goods and encouraging visits around his lime green kitchen table.
Dick celebrated his 96th birthday on Nov. 11 surrounded by loved ones in a time of celebration and gratitude. Despite the challenges of hospice care, this milestone birthday was filled with warmth, joy, laughter and reflection. Family and friends gathered to share cake, pie and homemade ice cream. The room was filled with love and heartfelt prayers. Dick asked for the lights to be turned up so that he could give a speech. He expressed his love to all who were there. It was an unforgettable celebration for a life well-lived.
The McMiller family would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the nurses, staff and chaplain of Village Green for their unwavering care given. Additional gratitude goes to the staff at EverHeart Hospice of Greenville, and Dick’s in-home caregivers.
