Lorraine Townsend, age 88 of New Madison, died on the farm where she had dedicated six decades of her life. Lorraine was born December 31, 1934, in Kentucky to the late Neville and Beulah (Hulett) Ballard. Lorraine was not just a farmer but also a devoted mother. She was an active member of the EUM Church in Greenville contributing her time to volunteer work. Known for her kindness, humor and beautiful spirit, Lorraine had a wide circle of friends who deeply admired her. She had exceptional skills in baking, cooking, and gardening. She enjoyed preparing sweet corn to freeze with the family. Lorraine cherished visits from her children, grandchildren and friends.
In addition to her parents, Lorraine is preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, George Everett Townsend whom she married on August 8, 1951; as well as two brothers Robert Ballard and Neville Ballard.
Lorraine is survived by a son & daughter-in-law, Tyle & Jennifer (Sorrell) Townsend of New Madison; daughters & sons-in-law Linda & Jack Kraemer of Chicago, Illinois and Patti & Stacey Johnson of Cedar City, Utah, grandchildren Dustin Townsend of New Madison, Tennille (Townsend) and Justin Brown of New Madison, Taylor (Michelle) Kraemer of Chicago, Illinois, Mitchell Kraemer of Chicago, Illinois, Jacob and Deana (Mugimu) Moore of Ft. Worth, Texas and Mackenzie Moore of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and great grandchildren, Abbie Townsend Rogers, Brooks Kraemer and Reese Kraemer. Additionally, Lorraine is survived by brothers Woody & Donna Ballard of New Madison, Jim & Donna Ballard of New Madison, sister-in-law Roxie Ballard of Dayton; sister-in-law Joy and Jim Albright of Greenville, and numerous nieces and nephews; and her beloved cat, Princess.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 30, 2023, 10-11 am followed by the funeral service at 11 am at EUM Church 111 Devor Street, Greenville. Burial to follow at Greenmound Cemetery in New Madison. A luncheon will be provided by the EUM Church at 111 Devor Street, Greenville following the burial.
