Gerald Wayne McClain, 92, of St. Petersburg, FL, passed away Thursday, September 2, 2021, at the VA Bay Pines Hospital in St. Petersburg.
He was born May 8, 1929, in Batesville, IN, son of the late Clarence Otto McClain and Gladys (Rayles) McClain. Gerald was united in marriage to Velma D. Emsweller on December 27, 1953 in Batesville. Gerald and Velma shared over 44 years of marriage together until her passing in 1998.
Gerald served in the Army during the Korean War from late 1951 through late 1952. He was wounded in action in North Korea in June 1952 and received the Purple Heart. Gerald worked at Hill-Rom Industries for over 42 years mainly on the over bed table line before retiring in 1990.
He enjoyed traveling with his son on cruises, spending time with family at holiday gatherings, and telling stories. He was loved more than he knew, and will be missed by all his family and friends.
Gerald is survived by his only child, Jeff McClain also of St. Petersburg, FL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and daughter-in-law Kathleen E. (Shoemaker) McClain.
Graveside services will occur at 11AM on September 11, 2021 at Clarksburg Cemetery.
