Richard Lee (Jumpy) Joyner

A visitation will be held Thursday, March 27, 2025, at 11am with a service to follow at 12pm all held at Morehead United Methodist Church.

Richard was born on January 5, 1943, in Julian, NC, the son of James Edward Joyner & Virginia Case Joyner.

He worked as a Heavy Machine Mechanic for AMC for 65 years. Later, he worked at John Christopher's residence (Farm) as a caretaker.

He loved the outdoors, which included mowing and gardening. His favorite pastime was watching Westerns & NASCAR. Richard Petty & Dale Earnhardt were his favorite drivers. Every day, he would go to one of his best friend's stores, "Shorty Wilson's," to hang out with his friends. In his younger years, he had a love for racing, which led him to build a car to race at 311 Speedway. His favorite car was a '57 Chevrolet, which he owned and raced.

Richard was a dedicated father and hardworking individual who was always there for his family. He was always willing to help anyone.

Richard is survived by his loving family; wife of 59 years, Elizabeth Pegram Joyner; his brother, Tony Joyner; and sister, Vickie Jessup. Nieces: Wendy Jessup & Suzanne (Chuck) Hennis. Nephews: Ernie Jessup & Allen (Ann) Joyner. Great-nieces: Tiffany Joyner, Melissa Stokes, Samantha & Makayla Hennis. Great-nephews: Tyler Joyner, Travis Stokes, Andrew Marshall, Justin Bailey, David, Daniel, & Taryn Jessup, and numerous cousins and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, William & (Addie) Case; parents, James Edward Joyner & Virginia Case Joyner; brother, Edward Wayne Joyner; and his beloved son, Eric Lee Joyner.

Richard's personality brought warmth and joy to everyone he encountered, and his passing will be mourned deeply by everyone who knew and loved him. His memory will remain in the hearts of his family, friends, and all those who were honored to have had the privilege of knowing him.
