A funeral service will be held Monday, 4:00 p.m., at South Elm Street Baptist Church by Dr. Lawrence Clapp.
Dickie was born August 18, 1940 in Greensboro, the son of Theda Royal Davis and the grandson of LouElla and Benjamin Franklin Davis.
Dickie’s passion was working at the Pinecroft and Sedgefield Fire Departments and volunteered there for over 57 years, since he was 18 years of age. Dickie worked with the Guilford Co. Ambulance Service when it was first formed as this was a natural fit for a take charge person. He also worked part time with Fryar Ambulance. Dickie was a people person who enjoyed serving the community pouring his heart and soul into every need he responded to. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons and enjoyed watching them play football. He enjoyed volunteering with the rescue squad at Southern Guilford High School football games.
In addition to his mother and grandparents, Dickie was preceded in death by his grandson, Brandon Davis.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Hazel Davis; sons, Richard A. Davis, Jr. “Ricky” and wife Cindy of Ramseur and Michael J. Davis of Greensboro; grandchildren, Sierra, Cody, Natalie, Nathan, Nolan, Ned, Kaylee and Jesse Davis.
Family and friends will be received Sunday, 6:00-8:00 p.m., at Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel.
