He was born December 11th, 1930 in Wilkes County to Raymond and Alma Parks. He was a caring son, devoted husband, loving father and grandfather.
Funeral services will be held at Hanes Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel in Greensboro, NC on Monday, July 2nd at 11am, officiated by Rev. Burley Moore and Rev. Bill Barnes. Interment will follow in Guilford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 1st from 6-8pm at Hanes Lineberry, 6000 High Point Rd and other times at the home.
Raymond was preceded in death by his parents and beloved daughter Vickie Lynn Parks.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years Merril Neaves Parks, son Raymond H. Parks Jr., and wife Beth; the joys of his life, granddaughter, Meredith Parks and grandson, Morgan Parks.
Raymond worked for Overnite Transportation in Greensboro for 41 years and retired in 1993 as Terminal Manager. He enjoyed attending the Overnite retiree breakfast club once a month.
Raymond was a dedicated member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church for 41 years. He served as a deacon, trustee and on various committees. He was also a choir member, president of Couples for Christ Sunday School class, and member of the “ET” senior citizen club. Raymond loved God and put him first in his life. He faithfully visited the sick and shut-in’s and was always willing to help others. He was a generous, friendly, out-going person. He will be truly missed by all his family and numerous friends.
Raymond enjoyed sports especially his son’s alma mater, N.C. State University Wolfpack. Raymond loved watching and cheering on his team with his son Ray. After retirement, he and his wife enjoyed traveling to most of the US States, along with Hawaii, Alaska, 8 countries in Europe and provinces in Canada. They also enjoyed staying at their mountain home, “Parks-Way Dream”, in Chalet High off the Blue Ridge Parkway in Fancy Gap, VA.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Smith and Mickey Anderson for all their help and encouragement. Our thanks also to his private duty nurse, Linnie Turkett for the ray of sunshine she brought into his life through the loving care she provided during this difficult time in his life. To our church family for their support, we are eternally grateful.
