Phyllis was born at St. Leo’s Hospital in Greensboro, along with a twin brother, on April 5, 1948 to James Melvin Whitt and Jessie Lee Shropshire Whitt.
Phyllis grew up on Spruce Street in Historic White Oak New Town, a community in the Cone Mills village. She grew up attending Sixteenth Street Baptist Church where she came to know Jesus as her Savior at the age of 10 and was baptized by Dr. Bill Bennett. She graduated from Page High School in 1966.
Phyllis started working for Dun and Bradstreet in 1968 and worked there until retirement as an Information Resources Specialist. She was currently a member of Lawndale Baptist Church.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Gary Alton Lowe, and her daughter, Tammy Renee Lowe. She is also survived by two brothers, Dick W. Whitt (Lou) and her twin, Rev. Philip Kelly Whitt (Joy), three nieces, and several cousins.
She is also survived by a fur baby, Fluffy.
A memorial service will take place at Friendly Avenue Baptist Church on Thursday, December 15, 2022, at 11:00 AM officiated by Rev. Philip Whitt.
A private family burial for Phyllis will take place at a later date.
Advantage Funeral Services, 1900 Vanstory Street, Greensboro, NC will be serving the family.
