Peter Victor Boone Jr.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 20, 2015, at Hanes Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel, 6000 High Point Road, Greensboro. Interment with military honors will follow at Guilford Memorial Park.

Peter was born January 5, 1924; one of seven children, in Guilford County, NC to the late Peter Victor Boone, Sr. and Meta Geraldine Whittington Boone. He grew up in Piedmont, NC and Farmville, Virginia and graduated from McLeansville High School.

Peter joined the Navy in 1943, was discharged in 1946 and married Helen Virginia Stine in 1947. For several years, he worked in the private sector before joining the U S Postal Service in 1953. He and Helen were former members of Sixteenth Street Baptist Church where he was a Deacon and now are members of Lawndale Baptist Church. He was an active volunteer for the Summerfield Fire Department.

After retirement, he traveled with his wife and family. He built his home in Rockingham County in 1982, and lived there until it was necessary for him and Helen to move into Heritage Green Assisted Living in Greensboro, in 2010.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Boone was preceded in death by his brothers, Vance, Paul and Ralph Boone and his sisters, Lelia Boone Curl, Mary Boone Fore, Virginia Boone Miles and Nell Boone Coon. He is survived by his wife, Helen Stine Boone, daughters, Katharine (Kathie) Boone Gentry and husband Greg Permar, Laura Virginia BooneSherrill and husband Henry Sherrill.

The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m., Tuesday, May 19, at Hanes Lineberry North Elm Chapel, 515 North Elm Street, Greensboro.
