Neil was born February 4, 1953 in Winston-Salem, the son of the late Reid Edward and Mary Mae Miller Carter. He was a member of the graduating Class of 1972 at R.J. Reynolds High School and he attended Wake Forest University. He was a Project Manager in Informational Technology for Dillard Paper Company/XpedX/Veritiv. Neil was a member of Hope Christian Fellowship.
Neil loved his family and delighted in his grandchildren and always put others first. He loved drinking coffee with special friends who became his family. He was an avid Deac fan. He enjoyed salt water fishing and was a grateful friend of Bill W. and will always be “my sparrow in a hurricane.”
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and twin granddaughters.
Neil was married on December 21, 1974 to Frances Lynn Elam Carter who survives of the home and he is also survived by his son, Todd Carter and wife Nicole of High Point; daughter, Kristi Carter Smith and husband Reverend Josh Smith of Greensboro; sister, Linda C. Hartman and husband Michael of Seneca, SC and grandchildren, Caitlin Carter, Tyler Carter, Tyson Carter and Rylie Smith and numerous cousins, nephews, and nieces. One surviving aunt.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel conducted by the Reverend Josh Smith and Reverend Robby Faircloth. Interment will follow at 3:30 p.m. at Forsyth Memorial Park in Winston-Salem. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and other times at the home.
