Michael Joe White passed away peacefully with family by his side on December 15, 2024, at the age of 79. Born on June 19, 1945, in Montgomery, WV, Joe was the son of the late Amelio J. White and Rovenza Lopez White.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Pius X Church at 11am on Monday, January 6, 2025. Prior to the funeral mass, a rosary prayer service will be held at 10:30 am at the church.
Joe was a graduate of Charleston Catholic High School where he excelled in academics as well as athletics (football, baseball, and basketball). He was a recipient of the Harry H. Kennedy Memorial Award for the Outstanding Student in academics and football in the State of West Virginia. After graduation he went on to play football at NC State University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Textile Technology. Joe married his high school sweetheart Carole, before serving his tour of duty in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged as Lieutenant from the United States Army, and reunited with his new bride and newborn daughter, Cathy.
Joe and Carole relocated to North Carolina where he began a nearly 40-year career with Cone Mills Textiles as an executive in Sales and Marketing. His successful career enabled him to support his growing family of 7 and took him to many places, with travel around the US, Mexico, as well as a 3 year stay in Waterloo, Belgium.
Joe was a member of St. Pius X Church and served many years as a Minister of Hospitality. He remained an avid sports fan all his life and delighted in his grandchildren’s sports endeavors. He played basketball at the YMCA up until he was 70. In his final years, he often spent Saturdays in the fall cheering on his beloved Wolfpack.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 56 years Carole (Zellers), daughter Cathy Foster, son Michael White (wife, Ashley), daughter Rebecca McGinnis (husband, John) , daughter Karen Reinecke (husband, Scott) , daughter Heather White, sisters Bonnie Stec (husband, John), Christy Lambert (husband, Gilbert), granddaughter Anna McGinnis, grandsons Jack Foster(wife, Alison), Joey White, Nick Foster, Michael White, Isaac McGinnis , nephews, nieces, grand-nephews , grand-nieces and many more family members, friends and loved ones.
The family would like to send a very special thank you to the nurses and other caregivers at WhiteStone Care and Wellness Center for their compassionate care of Joe.
