Mike Alloway was one of the funniest and gentlest people I have ever known.  Mike and I were friends while in college at Methodist University and later served on the MU Alumni Board together.  I had followed Mike's journey with cancer via Facebook and yet somehow I missed his opening the door to eternity ... until today.  I have read every word and smiled at every picture, knowing that my sweet friend was well-loved and so happy.  Our world is less without you, Mike ... but so enriched because you were a part of it.  Rest in gentle peace, old friend.

My Dad: A Legacy of Love, Courage, & Generosity:

A month after his 70th birthday celebration, my Dad started his courageous journey as #michaelstrong.  He inspired all of us through his steadfast joy in the midst of challenge.  His doctor said “I wish I could bottle up all of your positive energy and sprinkle it on people.  You are the most positive person I know.” 

On Friday, March 22, 2019.  7:19 AM.  On the third day of Spring, my Dad passed from this world to eternity.  He died peacefully in our home surrounded by me, my sister, & my mom by his side.  Thank you for all your prayers, support, & love over the past 2.5 years.

My Dad loved daffodils and he planted my great-grandmotherʼs daffodils in our yard.  They have been blooming for over 30 years.  On the day my Dad went to Heaven, the Earth was full of Springtime.  The birds were singing, the wind chimes were playing, the sun was radiant, & the beautiful daffodils were in full bloom on the peaceful Spring day when my Dad entered eternity.  May we all remember my Dad as Springtime.  Full of life, beauty, vibrancy, hope, joy, and love.  Itʼs so fitting that his favorite song is 'In The Garden'.  A week ago, my mom, Dad, & I sang this song together. Today, I sing this song while my Dad sings it in Heaven. I love you, Dad.

Today we celebrate, honor, and remember a great man, Michael James Alloway.  Itʼs no surprise to me that this room is filled with so many people who love and cherish him.  I am Katie Page.  I am honored to stand before you to share about my Dad and his legacy of love, courage, & generosity.  My Dad lived courageously and loved with his whole heart.  His bright smile and positive spirit are forever in our hearts.  Two years ago, we celebrated my Dadʼs 70th birthday with a big party at the O.Henry Hotel.  I wrote a birthday toast that I want to share with you now. 

"Happy Birthday, Dad!  It is such an honor to be here today to celebrate your life.  Today we are celebrating you and 70 years of life, love, and legacy. When I think of you, the 3 main characteristics that come to mind are humorous, faithful, and servant hearted.  You are one of the funniest people that I know and you are incredibly likable.  It's no surprise that so many people are here today to celebrate you.  Your great sense of humor draws people to you.  And, your silly and fun nature is one of my favorite things about you.  You are a faithful friend, father, and husband.  You are always there to offer a listening ear, a word of wisdom, or a helping hand.  Everyone in this room has been empowered through your generosity and kindness.  You live your life in the service of others and count it a joy to put others  before you.  Take a moment to look around the room to see all the family and friends that have gathered here today to celebrate you.  You have impacted each of us for good simply by being you.  May your year be filled with abundant JOY, and new adventures as you live life to the fullest in your 70's!  The best is yet to come!  Let's raise our glass to the one and only Michael James Alloway!  Happy Birthday, Dad!"

On behalf of my family, thank you for coming today to celebrate the life of my dad.  Words seem inadequate to describe “My Dad”.  I’ve heard a few say he is a hero to them.  He is a person they looked up to.  Yesterday, I was told, “ Michael spoke the truth in love.”  
I believe if he were able to advise us or tell us what he wanted today, he would say  
“Worship.  Praise God.  That is what I am doing.  I am healed.  I know you are sad but I am healed.  I have no more pain, no more suffering.”  He would tell us to love one another.  
The other day, I picked up my dad’s Bible.  He was very meticulous about keeping notes in his Bible.  On April 22, 2012, Pastor Jonathan Lewis preached from Mt. 25.  My dad highlighted verse 34.  In the column, he wrote “ Be gracious to those in need.”  To my dad, service in the church and community was important.  I learned from him I must use my talents to serve and love others.
Yes, he will be greatly missed.  I will miss my morning phone calls as I commute to work.  The daily weather reports from Accuweather Alloway.  But I take comfort knowing he has been called home and is worshipping with his Heavenly Father.
As it is written in 2 Timothy 4:6-8 “For I am already being poured out like a drink offering, and the time for my departure is near. 7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8 Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day- and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.

My dad has finished his race here on earth.  He did it through faith.  He was awarded his crown of righteousness.  Let’s celebrate his life today and in the days to come by serving and loving each other.

 Sending our sincere sympathy to all the family.  Michael was a wonderful godly man.   We spent many fun filled hours watching our girls run cross country and track together at Indiana Weslyan university. What a blessing to have  Michael, Sherry and Katie enter into our lives.  Michael and Sherry love their family and their God. They visited us one weekend on their way to Canada with their grandson Jacob. One of our cows had a calf that evening so we named him Jacob.   Michael will be missed by many whose lives he touched in a special way. May good memories of time spent together bring you comfort and may you feel God's loving arms all around you.

I am writing to express my sadness at Michael's loss.  We grew up together in Vincentown in the 1950's. He was, during an important period in grade school, one of my best friends.  I remember visiting him when his family lived high over the store downtown and spent many Saturday mornings at his house out Main Street after they moved.  Although we ended up moving to different parts of the country, I did see Michael at Carrieanne's for lunch after the Memorial Day parade several years ago, and spoke with him briefly at the memorial service for Wesley Thompson in Vincentown at the beginning of February.  I am glad he was able to make that trip and that I had a last opportunity to see him.  My condolences all.
