Mrs. Melissa Frances Rivers Smith, 67, a resident of Greensboro died Tuesday November 5, 2013 at her residence. Melissa was born May 6, 1946 in West Palm Beach, FL, the daughter of Gerald Raymond and Roberta Roseman Rivers. She was a graduate of West Palm Beach High School and was a member of the Greensboro Seventh Day Adventist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her son, Mark Edward Smith.
She is survived by husband of 38 years, James “Jim” Edward Smith of the home; three daughters, Kimberly Nereau and husband Charles Mahaffey of Greensboro, Jamie Edwards and husband Ronnie W. Edwards, Jr. of Coleridge, Kimberly Forrest and husband Andrew of Fayetteville; one sister, Sharon Kline of Gallatin, TN; one brother, Gerald Ray Rivers and wife Belinda of Lancaster, PA; eight grandchildren, Christopher Laster, James Joseph Smith, Brandon Perdue, Meli’ssa Smith, Steven Perdue, Angel McArthur, Jewell McArthur, Dylan Edwards and one great grandson, Adam Warner Perdue.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 3:00 p.m. at Vickery Chapel United Methodist Church officiated by Glen Garber. Interment will follow in the Vickery Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home Vanstory Chapel.
