Maxine Nicholson Brown went to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on November 24th, 2018; ending her battle with cancer; a struggle she fought with quiet determination and selflessness. Even while battling the disease, her strong faith allowed her to be content with the eventual outcome; and, at the end, she was eager to be with Christ and her loved ones who had preceded her. Maxine loved her family, friends, church, and community. She showed her love through decades of volunteering at Wesley Long Hospital, Heritage Green Assisted Living and Nursing Facility, Friendly Avenue Baptist Church, and as a voting poll worker. Maxine’s final struggle was like the rest of her life; marked with dignity and concern for family and friends.
Maxine was preceded in eternity by her husband, Bernon Brown, parents, Lester and Iona Nicholson, and sister, Ogalee Overby. She is survived by her daughters Judy Schoolfield and husband, Art, and Jill Wall and husband, Dwight; grandchildren, Stephanie and Justin Carter, David and Caitlin Wall, Matt and Jennifer Schoolfield, Beth Schoolfield, and Natalia Quintana; and four great grandchildren, Garrett and Davis Schoolfield, Cristian Schoolfield-Quintana, and William Carter. She also leaves behind her sister, Betty West, and her brothers, Jim Nicholson, and Richard Nicholson and his wife Lora.
A celebration of Maxine’s life will take place at 1 PM, Saturday, December 1, 2018 at Friendly Avenue Baptist Church with Pastor Daniel Dickard and Reverend Rob Miller officiating. The service will conclude with interment at Lakeview Memorial Park. The family will receive guests from 6 to 8 PM, Friday, November 30 at Hanes-Lineberry N. Elm chapel.
