Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, February 1, 2016 at Hanes-Lineberry Vanstory Chapel. Burial will follow at Guilford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the funeral from 12:00 until 2:00 pm on Monday at the funeral home.
Mary was born in Stokes County on March 15, 1931 to the late Grover and Nealie Mabe. She was of the Baptist faith and loved serving The Lord in many different capacities through her church. Mary retired from Fordham’s Cleaners after 38 years of employment. She was a very outgoing people person who never met a stranger. Mary enjoyed traveling, especially with her church buddies and loved cooking, mostly for family gatherings. She was a member of The Order of the Eastern Star. Mary also took time to visit folks who were shut-in and took great pleasure in sending countless cards to friends and family for all occasions. She was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew her. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Coy Hollis Thompson; a daughter, Sandy Thompson Welborn; her brother; and her 2 sisters.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Shirley Ann Taylor and her husband Gary of Randleman, Terry Lee Thompson of Julian, and Christopher Michael Thompson and his wife Tracy of Raleigh; 9 grandchildren, Tammy Bean, Crystal Ingold, Robert Lee Thompson, Jennifer Hyatt, Terry “Bubba” Thompson, Amber Varner, Thomas Welborn, Breanna Thompson, and Katie Thompson; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
