Mrs. Mary McClain Thompson, 98, a resident of Greensboro died Tuesday morning September 24, 2013 at Whitestone in Greensboro. She was born October 9, 1914 in Cass, West Virginia, the daughter of Thomas Shelton and Minta Minerva McArdle McClain. Mrs. Thompson worked with First Union National Bank before retiring in 1981. She was a member of Sedgefield Presbyterian Church.
Mary was married to Opie Kenton Thompson who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her son, William Kenton Thompson; her parents; two sisters, Jessie Wilbur, Ruth Jones and five brothers, Shelton, William, Thomas, Lloyd and Bland McClain.
She is survived by her daughter; Janet Bingham of Greensboro; one sister, Viva M. Wixson of Lincoln, Nebraska; three grandchildren, Kim Hulcy, Susan Nance, Angela Carlisle; five great grandchildren, Richard Holt, Robert Holt, Christina Goode, Brandon Nance, Aidan Carlisle; eight great-great grandchildren and her daughter-in-law, Geraldine Chatterton of Texas.
Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. Friday, September 27, 2013, at Guilford Memorial Park conducted by the Reverend Tempe Fussell.
