Mary Dickinson Bryan, 78, of Greensboro, NC, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2021 after a courageous fight against dementia. Born June 18, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Kate Orme King Dickinson and John Overton Dickinson of Lookout Mountain, TN.
Mary graduated from Girls Preparatory School in Chattanooga, TN, and received a BA in Sociology from Hollins College. She was active in many organizations including the following: The Colonial Dames of America, The Assembly, Green Thumb Garden Club and the Wednesday Literary Club. She was also active in the Junior League of Greensboro, at one point serving as President. She spent decades in corporate sales for both the telecommunications and travel industries.
Mary was a dedicated wife to Clayton for 49 years and together they raised two children. As a mother, she was unwavering in her love and support. As a grandmother, she delighted in her grandson Berly and anything that he was interested in. Later in life, she married John A. Watkins and the two of them had some wonderful years together.
During her time in travel, Mary enlisted her sister Peggy to join her in Hong Kong and other exotic locations abroad, always coming back with incredible stories. As a friend, she was loyal and always a good listener. Most of all, Mary loved spending time with her family and friends and always did it with a smile and a laugh.
Mary is survived by her son Augustin Clayton Bryan III, daughter Katherine Bryan Fichthorn and husband Luke; grandson Berly Fichthorn; and sister Peggy Dickinson Knight. She was preceded in death by her husband Augustin Clayton Bryan Jr., husband John A. Watkins, and her sister Katherine Paty.
