He leaves behind four children Sherrie, Chris, Stephanie, and Zachary as well as his beloved companion pet dog Rocky “son”. He is also survived by several grandchildren as well as great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild and several nieces and nephews, as well as one brother June Widener and wife Libby Widener. He is preceded in death by his wife Sylvia of 56 years, and their eldest daughter Debra Alford, as well as 7 brothers and 4 sisters.
The son of Martin Lee Widener and Carrie Rouse Widener, Marvin was born and raised in Widener Valley located in Washington County, Virginia. Marvin spent his younger days on a farm working until he married his late wife. They moved to High Point where they made their home and raised their family. In 2004 Marvin retired from Marsh Kitchen Cabinets, where he worked for over 21 years.
Marvin’s hobbies included a passion for lawn care, working with his grandson to rebuild lawn care machinery, cooking Sunday breakfast for his family, taking weekend trips to the mountains, spending days at the theater watching comedies and eating popcorn with his grandchildren, spending summer afternoons outside with his dog, going shopping with his granddaughter, and eating out at Golden Corral and Cracker Barrel.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of High Point Kidney Center, where Marvin was a dialysis patient for many years and made several friends.
The family would also like to say thank you to the team of Hospice House of High Point for the special care shown to Marvin, as well as his family during a difficult time.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday July 24, 2019 at 3:30pm at Guilford Memorial Park located at 600 West Gate City Blvd, Greensboro, NC 27407. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Hospice Home of High Point.
