A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, December 5, 2016 at the Tommy Jones Chapel at Whitestone Masonic and Eastern Star Home, with Rev. Dr. Jay Smith officiating. Mrs. Sikes will be laid to rest next to her husband prior to the service at Westminster Gardens Cemetery.
Marie was born in Alamance County on March 4, 1925 to the late George and Phoebe Lynch. She was a charter member of Jamestown Presbyterian Church where in previous years she taught Sunday School and Womens Bible Studies. Marie retired from VF Corporation/Wrangler in 2000 but, more importantly she was a homemaker. She was The Valedictorian of her senior class in high school and went on to graduate from Burlington Business College. Marie was a member of the Gateway Civitan Club and the Guilford Chapter #141 Order of The Eastern Star. She enjoyed camping, Holiday Bus Tours, and making close relationship with her neighbors at Whitestone. Marie was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend who was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew her. In addition to her parents, Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Richard A. Sikes in 1994 and her brother, G.T. Lynch, Jr.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Dianne Sikes West and husband Austin of Greensboro; sister, Jewel L. Crawford of Hillsborough; and six nieces and nephews.
There will be a reception and receiving of friends following the funeral service in the Independent Living Lobby at Whitestone. Marie has now heard her Master say, “Well done my good and faithful servant”.
