Margaret Mary (Peggy) Sorge died on August 25 after a brief illness. Peggy was born in New York City and the daughter of Margaret and Peter Joseph O’Shea. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 52 years, John (Ronnie) Sorge, her parents, and her brother Peter J. O’Shea Jr.
Peggy was a registered nurse who enjoyed giving comfort to her patients and mentoring other nurses. She received her AAS degree from the College of Staten Island, a BSN degree from NC A&T State University and earned multiple certifications in the nursing and medical fields. She retired from Moses Cone Hospital in 1995 after a successful career during which she served as a head nurse in the Surgical Intensive Care and Medical Telemetry units.
In retirement, Peggy enjoyed travelling with her husband, reading, and oil painting. She also took joy in the company of her beloved family and many friends from the Forest Oaks community where she resided for 37 years and the Well Spring Retirement Community where she most recently lived. Her family wishes to thank her caregivers at Wellspring for their thoughtfulness and devotion.
Peggy is survived by her three sons and their wives, Jim (Camy) Sorge of Greensboro, NC; Mike Sorge of Houston, TX; Steve (Tonya) Sorge of Charlotte; five adoring grandchildren (Emily, Matt, Ryan, Katie, and Jack); her brother Dan (Peggy) O’Shea; and sisters-in-law Susan O’Shea (widow of Peter); and Barbara Nola. Her family will miss her dearly.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, September 6, at 11:00 AM at St Pius X Catholic Church, 2210 N. Elm St. Greensboro, NC 27408. Interment will follow in Gilmore Memorial Park in Julian.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her name to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
