Linda “Lyn” Louise (Ritchie) Thrasher, 75, a resident of Asheboro, NC, went to be with Jesus in her heavenly home on Thursday, February 16, 2023. She was born in Cumberland, MD, the second daughter of Arvey Milton Ritchie and Sarah Kathryn (Jones) Ritchie, and grew up in Mt. Lake Park, MD. More than anything, Lyn loved Jesus, life, and her two daughters.
How do you distill a life like Lyn’s into a few paragraphs? You can’t - it’s best spoken through the lives she touched. Hers was an amazing life lived in sacrificial and unconditional service to her Savior, Jesus, and to those she loved. Lyn gratefully met her Lord and Savior at church camp when she was a young teen. Since then, she has sowed Jesus’ love into many lives and was a fierce prayer warrior, interceding on behalf of multitudes.
Lyn was a vivacious red-head that had enduring faith in the midst of the challenges that life threw at her. She had a buoyancy and joy that came from her unshakable faith in Jesus; her infectious laughter and humor flowed into others. She taught her daughters to “look for the laughter” in every situation and exemplified a life lived with joy.
She wanted to be a cowgirl from a young age. When traveling with her older daughter to Cheyanne, WY, she felt especially drawn to the quote shared with her at the Cowgirls of the West Museum: Being a cowgirl is an attitude really. It is a pioneer spirit with a special American brand of courage. The cowgirl faces life head-on, lives by her own lights, and makes no excuses. Cowgirls take stands, they speak up, they defend things they hold dear! (Dale Evans) Whether cowgirl or not, Lyn’s life exemplified the cowgirl spirit.
Lyn attended the University of Maryland, College Park (go Terps!) and while she had many jobs after graduation (including social service work in foster care and adoption), her passion and purpose was in the protection and saving of the unborn. Before retiring, Lyn was the Executive Director for Pregnancy Care Centers in Greensboro and Asheboro, NC. She was not only devoted to the pregnancy care center mission, she was also committed to it. Her service to the unborn spans 43 years with multiple unborn babies saved and mothers helped.
She was preceded in death by her parents, aunts, uncles, and cousins, and a baby brother, Edward “Eddie” Ritchie.
Surviving are her daughters, Marley Jill Johnson and husband Jayson (Lyn’s “Joy-son”) of Durham, and Gwenn Rebecca Thrasher, of Greensboro; her sister, Joan (Ritchie) Lawton and husband Art of Rock Hill, SC; her niece, Wendy (Lawton) McDaniel and husband Frank of Rock Hill, SC; and her nephew, Michael Lawton of Fort Mill, SC.
A visitation for Lyn will be held Saturday, February 25, 2023 from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM at Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel, 6000 West Gate City Blvd., Greensboro, North Carolina 27407. A funeral service will occur Saturday, February 25, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel. An interment will occur at Guilford Memorial Park immediately following the service.
