Services will be held on June 28, 2014 at 12:45 pm Raleighs Cross Road United Methodist Church with Rev. Donald McCoy officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 12:00 – 12:45 p.m.. Interment will follow at Raleighs Cross Road United Methodist Church cemetery.
He was born on August 1, 1930to the late McKinley and Carrie Gilreath Caldwell in Guilford County. He was a graduate of James B. Dudley Senior High School and a World War II veteran having served during the Korean War.
He worked as a freight handler for Central Motor Lines for many years, as well at Maynor Caskets Company and the car auction. “Brother was a member of Raleighs Cross Road United Methodist Church where he proudly served on the Trustee Board, the United Methodist Men and numerous other positions. He loved fishing and playing golf.
Lewis was preceded in death by his parents; wife Gradie Jones Caldwell and sister Maxine Cofield. Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Macie Deans and Larry Scott of Greensboro, and Mary Trotman of Petersburg, VA; niece Cynthia Miles; nine grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren, two sisters-in law Helen Jones and Macie Sibert; special friends Doris Johnson and Ronnie Staples; and a host of relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to American Heart Association or to the American Cancer Society in Lewis’ memory.
