Katie was born in Moore County to John Andrew and Ethel Hancock Jackson on July 6, 1926. She is predeceased by her husband, Ivey, her beloved eldest son, David, her brother, “J. A.” and a sister, Alma. She is survived by daughter Janet Gross (Dewey), granddaughter Corey (John Hand), and great-granddaughter, Olivia, of Birmingham, AL, as well as her son, Barry Furr (Peggy), granddaughter Lindsay, grandson Matthew (Brittany Price), great-grandchildren, Channing, Laken, and Declan, of Greensboro, NC.
She was a caring mom and homemaker most of her life. She boasted of her Scotch-Irish heritage and she loved family gatherings and was a wonderful cook, especially with Sunday dinners. She loved animals; especially, her wild birds and squirrels, which made frequent visits to her back porch for biscuits or cornbread.
The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to all those, who cared for her; namely, Dr. Donald Murinson and Staff, Dr. Stacy Wentworth, Father Joe Mack, who made frequent visits to the home, and Deb Smith-Shaffery, her caregiver, who was a blessing from heaven, as well as those friends too many to name, who offered support during her two-year illness. A special thanks to all the Hospice staff for their caring and compassion.
In lieu of flowers, please make memorials to Cone Cancer Center, 501 N. Elam Ave., Greensboro, NC 27403 or Hospice of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Avenue, Greensboro, NC 27405.
