June was born on June 28, 1935, in the community of State Road, North Carolina, to the late Noah Banner Gentry and Wanie Hayes Gentry. She was a graduate of Elkin High School and Draughon’s Business College.
In addition to her parents, June was preceded in death by her husband and best friend, Bill Collins, and her sister, Mary Ruth Transou. Her survivors include: son, Greg, and his companion, Lisa Holland, of Atlanta, Ga.; daughter, Robin Adams, and her husband, Keith, of Asheboro, N.C.; granddaughter, Sarah Adams Weems, and her husband, Brian, of Trent Woods, N.C.; grandson, Samuel Adams, of Knightdale, N.C.; sister, Mae Moncus, of State Road, N.C.; sister, Sharon Hollaway, and her husband, Jerrell, of Sebastian, Fl.; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 7th, at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church. Following the service, the family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall.
The family would like to thank Dr. Vinay Gudena and the staff at Cone Cancer Center, as well as Kelly Kirkpatrick, R.N., and the staff at Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro, for their exceptional care and compassion during June’s illness.
