A gathering of friends and family will take place at Hanes-Lineberry Vanstory Chapel on Saturday, June 17, 2017. At 1:00 pm there will be viewing and a Homegoing Celebration at 2:00 pm. A visitation will follow until 5:00 pm.
John was born December 20, 1943 to the late Charles Smith and Alice Elizabeth Saunders and was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. He worked for Overnight Transport Company as a long-haul driver for many years and also was a Realtor dealing in residential properties. John was a member of the Old Asheboro Street Neighborhood Association Inc. and on May 11, 1995 he became a member of The Greensboro Police Citizens Academy. He was a loving and devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, nephew, cousin, and friend who was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew him.
Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Shelia B. Saunders of Greensboro; grandchildren, Kiosha Q. Saunders (Grady Stimpson, Jr.), Sade Q. Saunders (Eddie Parks, Jr.), Demmie L. Brown, and Joshua M. A. Saunders, all of Greensboro; great-grandchildren, David, Keyonna, Zykell, Koreyohn , Kariah, Yahzae, Ananiah, and Keyvion all of Greensboro; aunts, Effie Mebane and Jessie Walter; and a host of cousins and other extended family, including his ex-wife, Faye E. Saunders.
