John Robbins Kimble passed away on December 6, 2021. A celebration of life service will be held at Lawndale Baptist Church on Sunday December 12, 2021, at 2:00 pm with Dr. Curt Dean officiating. Visitation will follow the service.
Rob was predeceased by his parents, Carson Lee & Lola Robbins Kimble. He is survived by his wife, Martha, daughter, Madison Kimble, and sister, Kathy Kimble.
Rob grew up in Thomasville, NC and graduated from East Davidson High School and UNCW. He achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America. He was a scout leader and youth Sunday school teacher for several years. Craig Fleming, John Skaggs, Frazier Hanover, and Chris Weisner were some of his lifelong friends. They enjoyed years fishing and hunting together, but mostly they had fun retelling stories (over and over!) around the fire pit during those trips. These guys were friends in the truest sense of the word, and they really stepped up for Rob at the end of his life and planned those fishing trips as often as possible. Rob truly treasured his friends and loved them like brothers! Rob’s other hobby was target shooting at the gun range. He was a firearm enthusiast and spent hours discussing guns with his cousin, Rodney. Who knew there was so much to know about firearms? Rob and Rod were friends as well as cousins. Rob loved any conversation about guns and ammo. Being truly honest, Rob loved any conversation. He never met a stranger! Rob was always eager to meet the needs of others by taking on whatever project arose. There were a lot of those opportunities through the years.
Rob loved his friends and church family faithfully through acts of service on a regular basis. His greatest legacy is Madison. He couldn’t have been more proud and constantly talked about her to others. He loved volunteering in her classrooms when she was younger. He was always ready to lend a hand or idea when the next school project was assigned. Thankfully, he helped catch the 100 bugs for that dreaded ninth grade bug project! He was a really fun dad. He was the first one out the door and on the sled when it snowed. He even camped with her in the back yard to make sure she wouldn’t be scared when it was time for the real trip. Watching Duke play basketball was one of their favorite pastimes. They spent a lot of hours yelling during those games! They enjoyed talking about her career aspirations and was so proud of the care she is currently providing at Duke University Hospital. He respected her insight about his liver disease and appreciated her guidance. He was so honored to be her Dad. Rob had Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis for over twenty years. This is a slowly progressing disease, and his prayer was that he would survive long enough to see Madison graduate from college. God faithfully answered that prayer! Our family feels so blessed by our friends who have walked this road with us. We love and appreciate all of you and are comforted in knowing that Rob will spend eternity with our heavenly Father and know that he would want the same for you.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to: Lawndale Baptist Church 3505 Lawndale Dr., Greensboro, NC 27408.
