Jack was born in Charleston, South Carolina on July 25, 1939. His parents, Basil Rahall Kerr and Grace Hoffman Kerr preceded him in death.
Jack was married for over 60 years to his high school sweet heart, Virginia Nuss Kerr. They were blessed with three children, John A. Kerr, Jr (Tara), Angela Kerr Boyland, Ellen Nora Kerr Deese (David). Jack was known as Pop-Pop to his ten grandchildren, Elijah J. Moffe (Chris), Alexander J. Moffe, Levi J. Moffe (Emily), Elliott A Boyland, Cooper J. Boyland, Sydney L. Kerr, Oliver J. Kerr, and step-grand children Dakota Parker, Payton Deese and Walker Deese.
He is survived by two brothers, James J. Kerr (Harriett) and Richard H. Kerr. Jack had a special love for his God Child, Theresa Bouvette Sloop (Rick), who also survives him along with other nieces and nephews.
Predeceased siblings were brothers Francis, Robert, Basil Kerr and sisters Rose Mary Kerr Bouvette and Margaret Ann Kerr.
As a youth growing up on Johns Island, South Carolina, Jack never stopped talking about swimming in the Penny Creek and skiing in the Stono River with his friends. He was fortunate to serve his military reserve duty in the US Coast Guard based at Charleston Battery. He was activated during the Cuban Crisis under President John F. Kennedy.
Jack became a Real Estate Broker, Licensed Contractor, and Land Developer in Charleston, South Carolina. He held the office of President of the Home Builders Association and was presented the Builder of the Year Award among many other recognitions.
In 1976 Jack accepted a Regional Sales Director position with Boise Cascade, Kingsberry Home Division and chose Greensboro NC as his new home.
Returning to Charleston for Class Reunions at his former schools, Bishop England High School and the Citadel Military College, were events he never missed.
After an early retirement, Jack served 13 years as an Ordained Youth Minister at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Greensboro, NC. He not only shared his love of God with the young people but showed them through example the way God wants one to live.
As a senior citizen, Jack enjoyed participating in the Senior Olympics Program in the county, state, and national competitions. He was awarded many medals in Race Walking, Shot Putt and Swimming. Over the years he acquired many great friends and especially with his grandchildren and watching them achieve their goals. They always knew their Dad or Pop Pop would show up at their special events and brag about them. Jack always put his family first in his life.
A gravesite burial service will be held in Charleston, South Carolina at St. Lawrence Cemetery on Saturday, April 30, 2022 at 11:00 am.
