John C Riley Sr., son of Herschel Clay and Christena Riley, peacefully passed away on January 20, 2023, (81 yrs) at Harmony of Greensboro, North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his father, H. Clay and mother Christena, and sister, Diane Riley Carrabello.
Born in Anderson Indiana on 12/5/1941 at St John’s Hospital, John was baptized at Trinity Episcopal Church on Easter Eve. He graduated from Key West High School and was a graduate from College of William & Mary College in Williamsburg, VA. and of Rhode Island, OCS-Navy. John was proud of the fact that he got to go to flight school and successfully completed.
John loved his time in Key West and that time was a constant memory to talk about and reminisce, especially with his sister Barbara. Avid in attending yoga, beach goer, kayaker, he loved to travel, fish and read. John’s dry sense of humor will never be forgotten and will continue on in his children.
John was employed by Dan River, Blue Bell/Wrangler, Girbaud, O’Ware, and retired from VF Corp.
He volunteered with Habitat of Humanity and participated in two trips to Honduras.
Survived by his daughter Kelly Riley, son John Riley Jr. (Erica), daughter, Lisa Parrish Hall; sister, Barbara Scott, two young grandchildren, and three adult grand children who he loved despite distance and time. His beloved friend and companion, Marsha Allen, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and great grandchildren also survive him.

Family extends a very warm and loving thank you to the caregivers at Harmony at Greensboro, you allowed him to be him, and maintain his control and dignity till the end.
A memorial celebration and gathering will be at 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 4 at Hanes Lineberry, North Elm Chapel, 515 N Elm St, Greensboro, NC 27401.
