Jeanne Alford Claffey, 89, went home to be with her Savior on December 13, 2023. She was born in Wendell, North Carolina on January 20, 1934 to the late Alma Alford and Libby Batten Alford. She was preceded in death by her parents, six sisters and five brothers. Those left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of seventy-one years, William “Bill” Claffey; her sister, Willie Alford Currin of Raleigh, NC; two daughters, Debbie Poland (Stuart) of Liberty, NC, and Jeanne Brown (Eddie) of Greensboro, NC. She was known for her kindness, warm smile and quick wit. Above all, she loved her Savior, Jesus Christ. She was a devoted pastor’s wife who spent many years faithfully serving alongside her husband in several churches and worked in numerous areas in ministry including: singing in the choir, teaching Sunday school, Women’s Missionary Union, working in Vacation Bible School, and hand-assembling countless floral arrangements for Sunday services and special occasions. She also started each day reading her Bible and ending it with prayer. She was a beloved wife, mother, sister and grandmother (Mimaw). She loved to cook meals for her family, was an avid gardener, loved trivia and working crossword puzzles and played piano by ear. She enjoyed walking at the mall with her husband and friends as well as spending quality time with her loved ones.
Professionally, she was a certified dental assistant for thirty plus years. She also was an avid floral designer and had a family business called Designer Genes where she helped many people with creating lasting memories by adding unique personal touches to their weddings and funerals. She was deeply loved by her family and friends and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
