Janice Howard Johnson Kerley, 84, a native of Homestead, Florida went home to be with her Lord on January 8, 2023 in Greensboro, North Carolina. Born on November 28, 1938, she had been in Greensboro since 1985 to open her company Adecco Employment Services.
Janice graduated from South Dade High School in Homestead, Florida where she was a class officer, a cheerleader and involved in FFA. She attended 1st Presbyterian Church of Homestead. Janice was married to Bobby Joe Kerley for nearly 50 years. Her parents Howard Love Johnson of Wrightsville, Georgia, a pharmacist, and her mother, Lois Austin Johnson of Louisville, Kentucky, a teacher and professor at University of Miami, were early residents to South Florida.
Janice went to Stephens College in Missouri, University of Florida, and finished up her Music Education degree at University of Miami. She had a beautiful voice and sang in several operas.
Janice was a dedicated mother and aspired to be a Godly woman in all her endeavors. She was very involved at Kendall Presbyterian Church in Miami, Florida singing in their choir and in their Women of the Church. She was extremely active in American Business Women’s Association and served on the National Board of Directors over the SE region. She was also named as one the top 10 Women in the US.
She was and accomplished business woman working in various industries from education, technology, furniture manufacturing and sales to her beloved Adecco Employment Services, where Janice owned and operated the employment service for 26 years. Having grown the franchise to multiple offices in the Triad area of North Carolina when she retired. During that time, she always had the support and help from her husband, Joe, in all that she did.
Janice retired to Oak Hammock in Gainesville, Florida for 3 years to be with many of her childhood friends. There she attended numerous athletic events, concerts and plays. She returned to North Carolina in 2016 to spend time with her family and in her Highlands, North Carolina home. Above all, she enjoyed being a Nana and doting on her family, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Janice was preceded in death by her father, her mother, her husband Joe Kerley and her Uncle Guy Austin.
She is survived by her daughters, Lisa Jobe (John) and Meredith Tucker (Joel), her grandchildren, Michelle Thornburgh (Aaron), Austin Tucker (Katelyn), and James Tucker (Emma) and her great grandchildren, Easton and Finley Tucker.

A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, January 20, 2023 at Hanes Lineberry N. Elm Chapel located at 515 Elm Street, Greensboro, NC. Friends will be received from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Westminster Gardens.
