James (“Jim”) Paisley Foster of Greensboro, NC passed away on November 22, 2020. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, July 17, 2021 at 2:00 pm at Mt. Pisgah United Methodist Church, 2600 Pisgah Church Rd., Greensboro, NC 27408. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall. Jim was born July 5, 1944 in Burlington, NC to the late James Edmon Foster and Betty Nelson Foster. Jim was a loving husband, Dad and Poppy.
Jim married Ronda Upton Foster in 1968, and they recently celebrated 52 years together. He was a loving Dad to two sons, Al and Dave; and 12 happy years as Poppy to his grandson, Jackson. He was passionate about spending time with his family.
Jim enjoyed saxophone and played big band/swing music in Jr. High and High School. Jim also played sax in the high school and college concert bands. Jim graduated from Williams High school in Burlington. During his college years, he played “beach music” with the Sensational Playboys Band from Burlington, playing mainly on college campuses in North Carolina and Virginia.
Upon graduating from High Point College, Jim joined the United States Army Reserves, where he served in the 108th Division. He worked as an engineer with Burlington Industries for twenty-one years. He also worked with Louis Batson and Crown Lift Trucks before retiring in 2008. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by sister, Frances Foster Shaw.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Ronda; sons, James Alan Foster and his wife Sara of Knoxville, TN and Jonathan David Foster (Sylvia) of Greensboro; grandson, Jackson Doyle Foster; brother-in-law Steve Shaw; nephew, Matt Shaw; niece, Stephanie Freese (Brett); sister-in-law, Carol Sams (Jim); and nephews, Jim Sams and Darren Sams.
Jim was a member of Mt. Pisgah United Methodist Church and the Roundtable Class for over 40 years, where he assisted with the soundboard system and recorded worship services for shut-in members.
A celebration of Jim’s life will be held in the spring or summer of 2021 at Mt. Pisgah United Methodist Church, 2600 Pisgah Church Road in Greensboro, N.C.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials and donations be made to Mt. Pisgah United Methodist Church c/o the Fellowship Building Fund.
