Jack McGinn

Born September 25, 1923 in Savannah, Georgia, Jack was the son of Thomas Jerome McGinn and Maude Peters McGinn. He attended The Marist School for Boys and graduated from Benedictine Catholic Military High School. In April 1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Army as a Second Lieutenant, serving with the 135th infantry in the European theatre, landing first in Casablanca and then on the shores of Anzio, Italy. He was awarded the Silver Star and Purple Hearts for his valor in war and leadership during the Battle of Monte Cassino.

Following the War, he returned to attend UNC-Chapel Hill, where he received a BS in Business and began his long and loved career in fashion. That continued in Greensboro, where as the owner of Brownhill’s Inc., he found joy in serving as a fashion consultant to the Triad community. He especially enjoyed helping women feel beautiful, whether it be for their wedding day or other special occasions.

Jack lived his life as a devoted Roman Catholic. His trust in God’s goodness sustained and inspired every aspect of his life. The roots of his faith were planted during his childhood in Savannah and carried him through battle in WWII, bringing him home to Greensboro where he shared that faith with family, church and community. He was an active member of St Pius X Church for 51 years. He served on many boards and civic organizations throughout his life in the service of others.

He is survived by his wife, Doris (Dolly) Brim McGinn.

He was predeceased by his wife Marjorie Chapman McGinn and is survived by their children: Lisa McGinn Glass and her husband Bill, Thomas Jerome McGinn III, Mark Rimes McGinn, Marjorie Elda McGinn (Mimi) and her husband Jim Posey; and his grandchildren: Sarah Cargile Glass, Marjorie Glass Foster (Marlee) and her husband Matthew, Samuel William Glass VI, Dara Scott McGinn, Thomas Jerome McGinn IV (Tavis) and Maura Rimes McGinn.

He is also remembered by his extended family Heather Posey and her daughter Mariah, Jay & Regine Posey and their children Jordan and Julia, and Dolly’s children: David Schenck Jr., Dee Schenck Rhodes and her husband Mac, Kenneth Schenck, Christopher Carr and his wife Tessa, Patti Schenck Cocciolo and her husband Harry; and her grandchildren: Michael Schenck, Christopher Schenck, Doris Rhodes, Will Rhodes, Anna Rhodes, Rex Schenck, Cailyn Schenck, Roman Cocciolo and Ford Cocciolo.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Dec 31, 2011 at 11:00 am at St. Pius X Church. Inurnment will follow at the church columbarium. The family will receive friends at the church following the memorial. Visitation will be held Friday, Dec 30 from 2:00-4:00pm at Well Spring Retirement Community, 4100 Wellspring Drive, Greensboro, NC.
