Iris Alexander Mann, better known as “Ba”, died on April 18th from complications of a fall. Iris was born in Winston Salem on February 9, 1922. A service for the family will be held in the chapel at First Presbyterian Church on Saturday at 11:00am. The family will receive friends on Friday, April 21st at Abbotswood, 3504 Flint Street from 1:00 to 3:00 pm.
She was predeceased by her parents, Rai B. and Bertha Alexander and a brother Edward H. Alexander.
Iris was the matriarch and cornerstone of a large and devoted family consisting of four children and their spouses, thirteen grandchildren and their spouses and 25 great grandchildren and many grand dogs.
Iris was instrumental in founding the gift shop at Wesley Long Hospital and longtime manager of the Junior League of Greensboro Bargain Box. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and longtime resident of Abbotswood.
She is survived by a sister, Betty Sue Grant, and children Ginny and Bobby May of Lexington, KY; Mack and Harvey Mann of Sugar Hill, GA; Alex and Barbara Mann and Susan and David Millikan of Greensboro; grandchildren, Andrew and Matty May, Shelton and Steven Murry, Michael and Heather Sandifer, Gregory and Joy Sandifer, Harvey Sandifer, McIvor and Lisa Mann, David and Marla Mann, Brian and Carly Mann, Mark and Emily Mann, Josh and Kari Mann, Anne Millikan, Rives and Anthony Howard, Maggie and Greg Marston, and 25 great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Greensboro Urban Ministry, 305 W. Gate City Blvd., Greensboro, NC 27406; or Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Ave., Greensboro, NC 27405.
