Mr. George Richard Benton, 75, a resident of Jamestown passed away Friday October 15, 2010 at Wesley Long Hospital. Mr. Benton was born April 6, 1935 in Bridgewater, MA a son of the late George Merritt Benton and Florence Riss Benton.
Mr. Benton graduated in 1953 from Bridgewater High School in Massachusetts. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and proudly served his country across the United States, Japan and in Europe. After a distinguished military career he retired after 20 years. After his military retirement he worked an additional 20 years for Digital Equipment Corporation in Merrimack New Hampshire. He lived on Cape Cod and later moved to High Point where he worked with Century 21 before returning to Cape Cod. Mr. Benton briefly moved to New Port Richie Florida and moved to Jamestown in 2008.
He was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan, caring by nature and a mentor to many! He was well liked and respected with everyone he met. His contagious sense of humor and council was loved by all that knew him.
Surviving is his wife, Donna J. Benton; two daughters, Diane Benton Plourde of Greensboro, Cathy Feinberg of Boca Raton, FL; one step-daughter, Cathy R. Enoch of Winchester, VA; two sons, Rick Benton of Flower Mound, TX, Michael Benton and wife Tricia of Bedford, NH; 10 grandchildren, Jessica Kram, Joey Benton, Aubrielle Tesa, Justin Benton, Joshua Benton, Christina Benton, David Feinberg, Avinoam Feinberg, Lena Nazzal, Moshe Feinberg and four great grandchildren, Isabella Kram, Abigail Kram, Rachel Kram and Cullen Tesa.
The visitation will be held at Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel 6000 High Point Road, Greensboro, NC 27407 on Thursday October 21, at 3:00 pm followed by a 4:00 pm Graveside services conducted by Deacon Tim Rohan with full military honors at Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr Mohammad and Dr Manning of the Wesley Long Cancer Center along with the entire staff of the palliative care unit at Wesley Long Hosptial.
