Frank was born on August 22, 1951 in Durham, NC to the late George and Ruby Wheeler, was a 1970 graduate of Durham High School and graduated from Western Carolina University in 1974, with a degree in Business Administration. He retired as a Supervisor for Commonwealth Brands Inc. after 35 years of service. Frank was a die-hard Duke Basketball fan, an avid golfer, enjoyed fishing, spending time at Ocean Isle Beach and was a huge dog lover. He was a handy guy to have around and his humor was unsurpassed. Frank was witty and playful in his conversations and was a great story teller who enjoyed teasing folks whenever he could get a rise out of them. His family describes him as a man with a commanding presence with a genuinely gentle soul. Frank’s legacy lies in the relationships he maintained throughout his life. To truly know Frank you didn’t need to look any further than his wife and his two sons, Wesley and Christopher. They were his pride and joy but, more importantly they were his best friends. Theirs is a bond that will transcend his passing, forever binding them together. Cathy, his wife of 41 years and love of his life for 50 years, was quite simply his heartbeat. They shared a love that is unmeasurable by modern standards and therefore have set a benchmark for the rest of us to aspire to. High school sweethearts to the very end indeed. Frank was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend who was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew him. In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by his daughter, Courtney Crews Wheeler.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Cathy Wheeler of the home; sons, Frank Wesley Wheeler and his partner, Rob Overman and Robert Christopher Wheeler and his wife Audrey, all of Greensboro; sister, Joyce Hester and her husband Bill of Charlotte; sister-in-law, Laura Forrest and her husband Kevin of High Point; his faithful canine companion, Lucy; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family.
