Mrs. Betty Chambers, 79, passed away Thursday, March 31 in Greensboro, NC. Born July 19, 1931, in Richmond, Va., Betty was the daughter of the late Chapman and Mary Elizabeth Palmer Ramsey. She is preceded in death by her sister Martha Cook Whitt. Betty is survived by her daughter Jane House and husband Brad House and grand-daughters Melissa and Jennifer House. She is also survived by her son Bill Chambers and wife Julie Chambers.
Betty graduated from James Madison University in 1951 with a degree in education. She enjoyed her teaching career while working for public schools in Williamsburg, Va. and Greensboro, NC.
In 1976 she completed nursing school at Guilford Technical College and worked many years for the Children’s Home Society of Greensboro.
Betty loved sports and excelled at basketball and tennis. She really enjoyed following the UNC basketball team and was a top tennis player in the city representing Green Valley Tennis Club.
She was a kind-hearted person and was always concerned about the welfare of others. She was deeply loved by her family, friends, and colleagues who will miss her dearly but treasure her example of giving and loving kindness.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:00 pm on Wednesday, April 6 at Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home on North Elm Street. A memorial service will follow at 7:00 pm in the funeral home chapel.
The funeral service will be held at Liberty Christian Church Cemetery in Green Bay, Va. on Saturday, April 9 at 1:00 pm.
